What is RESPECT?

RESPECT is Africa’s Digital Public Infrastructure for Education—a digital library for EdTech apps that makes quality educational technology accessible, sustainable, and scalable across the continent.

What does "RESPECT Compatible" mean?

RESPECT Compatible™ apps meet our interoperable technical standards: they work across borders, support offline functionality, maintain data sovereignty, and provide quality educational content aligned with local curricula.

Is RESPECT free to use?

For learners and educators, yes—RESPECT Compatible apps are free to access. For developers, RESPECT provides a sponsor-supported revenue model that creates sustainable income whilst keeping education free for end users.

How does RESPECT protect learner data?

RESPECT is built on data sovereignty principles. Countries maintain full control of learner data, which remains within their jurisdiction under their data protection laws. We provide infrastructure for insights whilst honouring national sovereignty.

How can my app become RESPECT Compatible?

Review our developer documentation to understand our technical standards, then submit your app for certification. Our team provides guidance throughout the process.

Which countries does RESPECT operate in?

RESPECT is designed for all 54 African countries. We’re currently active in [X] countries with deployments expanding throughout 2025–2026.
